About the farm

A small, family-run mushroom farm at Clayton Bay, South Australia. We grow food for our neighbours and share what we know about fungi.

Our story

It's a lifestyle.

Citana Organics grew out of the way we already lived: cooking from scratch, growing what we can, foraging carefully, and wasting as little as possible. Mushrooms bring all of that together.

Today we grow gourmet and functional species in a converted grow room on our property near the Finniss River. Every block is mixed, inoculated, fruited and picked by hand, using organic, locally sourced inputs and rainwater only.

We're Australian owned and family run. Our aim is simple: healthy, organic food for the people around us, and more folks falling in love with mushrooms.

Life at Clayton Bay

Wetlands, wicking beds and a wood fire.

Our mushrooms grow on a small coastal property by the Finniss River and the Lower Lakes, alongside the veggie patch, the compost and the campfire.

What we stand for

Ten things we hold to

  1. A whole-food lifestyle

Real food, cooked from scratch, the way we feed our own family.

  2. Organic, local inputs

Hardwood, soy hulls and grain sourced as close to home as we can get them.

  3. Nothing goes to waste

Spent blocks become compost and mulch. We recycle and reuse wherever we can.

  4. Australian owned, family run

Every block is mixed, inoculated, picked and packed by us.

  5. Healthy food for our locals

Harvested to order and delivered fresh to the Fleurieu and Adelaide Hills.

  6. Sharing the love

We share what we know about growing, foraging and cooking mushrooms.

  7. Mycelium in the garden

Fungi work hand in hand with our permaculture beds.

  8. Information and awareness

Plain-English guides to functional, gourmet and wild mushrooms in the Adelaide Hills.

  9. Inspiring community

Mycology matters. Fungi hold our soils and ecosystems together.

  10. Passion to the plate

Most of all, we want mushrooms that taste incredible.

How we grow

Slow, clean, small-batch.

We do our own lab work: cultures on agar, grain spawn, then sterilised hardwood blocks. Our fruiting room is climate-controlled for steady humidity and fresh air. That means consistent, clean mushrooms every week, with no shortcuts.
